Rec Technologies, the modern technology platform powering sports and recreation in communities across the country, today announced a strategic investment from WISE Ventures, the investment arm of the Wilf Family, owners of the Minnesota Vikings (NFL), Orlando City SC (MLS), Orlando Pride (NWSL) and Garden Homes and Garden Commercial (real estate development). The investment brings together decades of professional sports and real estate experience with Rec’s network of local recreation organizations.
More than 227 million people visit a local park or recreation facility each year, places that serve as an entry point into sports and physical activity. Rec gives local recreation departments modern tools to run everything from youth sports and summer camps to facility reservations, memberships and permitting, while making it easier for people to discover and participate in activities.
“Rec is building the technology platform behind so many people's first experience with sports and recreation,” said Konrad von Moltke, Principal at WISE Ventures. “We see a tremendous opportunity to modernize that experience at scale while supporting physical activity and wellbeing in local communities, which is a priority for WISE Ventures and the Wilf Family. We’re thrilled to support the Rec team as they grow their national footprint.”
Rec is already bringing that technology to more than 100 local park districts and private facilities across 30 states, including Bloomington, Minnesota; Indianapolis; and the Schaumburg Park District in Illinois. Across these communities, Rec helps a parent book a swim lesson, gives a coach access to an available field, helps a recreation department manage thousands of registrations and makes it easier for residents to find and book a local court, class or program.
“Sports and recreation start in neighborhood parks, rec centers, fields and community programs. Our goal is to make it easier for more people to find and access those opportunities to play,” said Rachel Williams, co-founder and president of Rec Technologies. “The Wilf Family understands the power of sports and has built an incredible footprint around it. They are the kind of partner who can help us think bigger about how technology can get more people playing.”
Rec continues to expand its platform and push the capabilities of what recreation technology can do. In September, the company launched Seb, its AI teammate that works inside the Rec platform to help recreation teams analyze data, complete routine work, communicate with residents and manage operations, giving staff more time to focus on the people and programs they serve.
The investment comes as Rec expands in one of WISE’s home markets of Minnesota, where Bloomington Parks and Recreation is launching as a flagship Rec partner. Rec and WISE also plan to explore opportunities across the Wilf Family’s broader sports and real estate portfolio, including the potential to bring Rec’s technology to multifamily communities where residents use shared recreation amenities such as gyms, pools and tennis courts.
