Every day, rec departments do something remarkable. You sign kids up for summer camp, get neighbors onto the pickleball courts, keep the pool staffed and the gym open, and somehow make the whole community feel a little more connected. Behind all of that is a lot of trust, and a lot of personal information that families hand over without thinking twice.
We don't take that lightly. So today we're excited to share some news we've been working toward for a long time: Rec Technologies has officially earned SOC 2 Type II certification.
If Type I says “we built the right safeguards,” Type II says “and we've proven they hold up, day in and day out.” It's the difference between drawing up a great game plan and actually running it all season long. An independent auditor watched how our security controls performed over an extended period, not in a single snapshot but in the real, everyday work of protecting your data. And we passed.
It's a milestone worth celebrating. It's also exactly the standard we think every community partner deserves.
Why This Matters for Your Department
Think about everything that flows through your rec software: household records, kids' names and ages, payment details, who's enrolled in what. That's some of the most personal information people share anywhere, and your residents trust you to keep it safe.
SOC 2 is one of the highest bars in the industry for security and privacy. It looks at an organization across five key areas: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. Earning Type II means our controls aren't just well-designed. They've been independently tested and confirmed to work consistently over time. When a parent registers their child or a resident reserves a shelter, the platform handling that information has been vetted to a standard you can stand behind, whether you're talking to your team, your director, or your city council.
How We Got Here, and Where We're Headed
We didn't treat SOC 2 as a one-and-done box to check. Type II is the more rigorous certification precisely because it measures whether good security habits actually stick. Earning it means we live those habits every day.
And we're not stopping. SOC 2 Type II isn't a finish line. It's a commitment we renew. We'll continue undergoing regular audits, expanding what we cover, and raising the bar as we grow. Your residents deserve ongoing assurance, not a one-time promise, and that's exactly what we're built to deliver.
Security Is Just Part of Who We Are
We didn't chase this certification for the badge on the website. We pursued it because protecting community data is woven into how we work. In practice, that looks like:
- Strong encryption and a secure data architecture
- Continuous monitoring and real-time alerting
- Thorough, ongoing training for every member of our team
- Secure development practices built into every feature we ship
- Regular outside testing and steady refinement of our controls
Security at Rec isn't a project with an end date. It's a discipline we practice every single day, the same way you keep your facilities safe, your programs running, and your community taken care of.
Thank You
To every city, town, and rec department that trusts us with your daily operations: thank you. Your dedication to serving families and neighborhoods is the reason we do this work, and it's what drives us to keep building software that's secure, reliable, and ready for whatever your community needs next.
We'll keep sharing updates through our Trust Center and our regular partner communications. And if you'd ever like a closer look at our SOC 2 program, or a hand explaining what it means to your team or your city leadership, just reach out. We're always happy to help.
